Sena announced the R1 EVO, the successor to their original R1 smart helmet. It features their Mesh Intercom and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing for rider-to-rider communication, using a built-in microphone and speakers. It also integrates a rear light for safety, along with a host of cooling vents for comfort.Advertisements
While rider-to-rider communication systems aren’t yet a standard item for cyclists, this isn’t the first system we’ve seen. With noise cancelling technology and hands-free operation via voice commands, you can connect four riders up to a half mile away.
The helmet also supports up to nine channels, allowing you to speak to different groups when desired. You can also connect it to your smartphone via Bluetooth to listen to music, GPS directions, or even take calls directly from the helmet.
An integrated rear light helps to increase safety, and charges via an access port on the back.
An optional front visor helps to block the sun from your eyes.
Sena’s smartphone app allows full control of the helmet’s functions.
The R1 EVO is available in small, medium, and large sizes. Colors include black, blue, white, gray, and tangerine. Current MSRP is surprisingly affordable, at $129 USD.
Sena 10C EVO Bluetooth Camera & Communication System
Sena also announced an update to their 10C camera and communication system, which is primarily aimed at motorcycling. It is equipped with a 4k camera (30fps) and Bluetooth, for up to 1.5 hours of video recording and 20 hours of talk time – stored on a Micro SD card.
The communication system supports up to four intercoms, at a distance of up to 1-mile away. The 10C EVO is available now for $400.
