Mycle Compact Folding Electric Bike Review

The Mycle Meaty Folding Electric Bike – vibrant, nippy, lightweight and folds in 10 seconds – a fab and fun little e-bike for under £1K (Price £999).

Here at Cyclechic we are on a mission to find the weightier e-bikes out there for women. This review is part of our She’s Electric series – electric inspiration for forward-thinking women.

Pretty & Easy: The minute I got this cute little velocipede out of the box, my life was filled with sunshine. Not only is the colour just the right shade of springtime yellow, but it was so easy to hoke and start riding. Both of these things bring me joy; a GORGEOUS COLOUR and EASYNESS! With basically no assembling, I just unfolded it, charged it (which only takes 4 hours!) and off I went. I teamed it with my Cyclechic Deco helmet in French Grey and the pastel tones worked a treat.

Lightweight: It’s a light velocipede too, coming in at 17.5kg, and considering of its meaty diamond it’s very easy to manoeuvre when you’re not cycling. I found it a unconfined velocipede to use for the school run when my daughter scoots. Considering it’s small, I can hold it steady with one hand and help her if she needs it. And I can siphon it lanugo the steps to the school easily. The kickstand is moreover a massive bonus for ease of use when you’re out and well-nigh and need your hands free.

How does it finger to ride? It felt good to ride and powerful. The pedal squire kicks in nicely and comfortably – the settings range from 1-5, depending on how much push you want, and the digital exhibit screen on the handlebars is easy to use. I love that it can measure the loftiness I travelled and my speed. I tested it out on a short but steep hill I do daily and whacked it up to 5. I’m pleased to report that we sailed up without a problem. You can definitely finger the difference in power from 4 to 5! It has 7 gears to play with too.

The transition between modes is not as smooth as other brands I’ve tried in a higher price subclass with Bosch motors, and the riding position is not quite so well-appointed as brands like Tern. I moreover didn’t find it as well-appointed to ride without the e-assist. But I would say for an e-bike for £999, it does everything you need to get about, tackling hills, charging quickly, looking modern, as well as stuff so portable.

I would teach you spend some time getting the seat post and the handlebars to the right height for you. They are both really easy to adjust, quick release, no tools necessary. This makes a massive difference to the repletion of the ride.

Many women I talk to say the e-bikes they try finger too large for them. As this has smaller wheels and smaller dimensions and it’s lightweight, it’s platonic for women who want a runaround rather than a big daunting yahoo of an e-bike. It moreover has a rack in-built, which is rare for a folding bike, so perhaps, like me, you’re once thinking which pannier will match it perfectly!

But where’s battery? In the seatpost!

How does it charge? When I first unwrapped this e-bike, I was very tumbled as to where the shower was hidden. Is it really an e-bike? It’s cleverely subconscious in the seat post (yes, it can be removed and charged off the bike) and the charging port is discreetly positioned under the saddle at the top of the seat post, meaning you could plane tuition this e-bike up on the train – clever!

Verdict: A nippy about-towner that’s versatile for commuting or trips away. It’s bringing joy into our lives in increasingly ways than one, but we recommend it for shorter trips rather than long hauls. It’s compact, quick at charging, gives a good push to get you places quicker as well as folding up and lanugo really easily. And it looks very pretty parked outside a cafe. Did someone say unappetizing white?
