MET Mobilite cycle commuter helmet gets MIPS, plus integrated light and insect net

The most important feature of any helmet is its safety, of course. Well, MET ticked that box with the addition of MIPS-C2 brain protection technology to the new MET Mobilite commuter helmet. Not only that, but it has a few bonus features that make it stand out as a well thought-through helmet for the everyday commute. Let’s check them out.

MET Mobilite MIPS

MET Helmets have added a MIPS option to the new Mobilite cycle commuter lid. Specifically, the MIPS-C2 brain protection system that allows the helmet shell to move 10-15mm in all directions independently of the riders head.

Its goal? To reduce the likelihood of a concussion injury occurring during a rotational impact. It makes the MET Mobilite, and all other helmets that house it, around 10% safer than those without. The MIPS-C2 brain protection system sits between the comfort padding of the liner (washable) and the shell’s EPS.

That’s the safety bit taken care of. What else makes this helmet a good option? First up, is the integrated rear light composed of four LEDs with a battery life of up to 60 hours. It is removable and rechargeable via USB. A must-have feature of any commuter helmet. The rear has some reflective decals for added visibility.

\"commuter

Next up is the insect net. A bit superfluous, perhaps? For some cycle commuters with severe insect bite allergies this could be a game changer. Allergy or no allergy, no cyclist wants to get a wasp stuck in a helmet vent when travelling at speed. The net should stop the flying creature getting anywhere near your skull.

The MET Mobilite MIPS also features a FIDLOCK magnetic buckle closure on the chin strap, a nice feature that allows you to easily fasten and open the buckle with one hand. A soft pad is positioned on the chin strap too to prevent rubbing.

\"safe-t

A 360° retention system holds the helmet securely in place without producing any small uncomfortable pressure points. The small visor is removable. Fourteen vents help keep the rider cool in hot summers.
