Fox ups their Open-Face protection with the new Speedframe Trail helmet

Following the launch of the Proframe, and the Dropframe, you could probably guess that Fox would soon frame up a new trail helmet as well. That time has finally come with the introduction of the all new Speedframe.Advertisements

While the Speedframe eliminates the added ear protection of the Dropframe, the helmet still packs in a number of protective elements. At the highest end, the Speedframe Pro utilizes their Varizorb dual density EPS foam. As with other manufacturers that use multi-density foam, softer foams will work better at slower speeds while harder foams are needed for high speed impacts. The multi-density foams also claim to spread out the impact over a greater area to reduce the impact to your brain.

To further protect your brain, the Speedframe is equipped with a MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) liner to help manage rotational impacts. Note that outside of the U.S., Fox will offer a Non-MIPS version in certain regions of Europe and Latin America.

The Speedframe looks to be well ventilated with 14 Big Bore vents including a massive air duct at the very front of the helmet directly under the visor – which happens to be goggle compatible and adjustable with three positions.

The Speedframe Pro also uses a Fidlock SNAP helmet buckle, a removable XT2 antimicrobial liner, and a 360° retention system.

The Pro models will be available in eight colors, all priced at $159.95.

For less money, you can still get a high level of protection from the Speedframe helmet. This helmet uses a standard in-molded EPS foam instead of the Varizorb dual density found on the pro model. It also still offers MIPS, but with a slightly different liner. This helmet also uses a standard buckle, and a standard pad set without the XT2 anti-microbial treatment. Also, compared to the Pro which uses a two piece shell, the single piece shell of non-Pro model doesn’t allow for as many color treatments. Those changes help get the price down to $109.95, and this one will come in four colors.

Finally, the Fox website shows a Speedframe WURD model. What is the WURD? We’re not really sure (Update: WURD is just the style name, and should match well with their WURD jerseys), but the helmet is exactly the same as the standard Speedframe, just in different colors with the word FOX across the back of the helmet. These will also sell for $109.95.
