New Lezyne Alert function turns simple blinkie LED tail lights into brake lights

Ready for the imminent return of autumn and riding in the dark, Lezyne’s new Alert tech puts brake light functionality into four of their compact, but bright rear lights. Building tiny accelerometer tech into their already small designs, these four lights automatically go into a max brightness, steady-on mode as you slow down, returning to their regular flashing mode after you come to a complete stop – increasing visibility and communicating your actions to drivers in a way that we all intuitively understand.

Lezyne Alert, automatic brake light LED tail lights

Accelerometer brake lights are really not something new. (We’ve been riding with them for almost six years now. That one’s still on my bike today, btw.) But, their cost of entry has come down almost 3-fold in those years, meaning we all can benefit from the increased visibility these days. Now you can stand out with four new brake light-equipped options from the Lezyne Alert LED family, the: Strip Drive Pro Alert Rear, Strip Alert Drive Rear, Zecto Alert Drive Rear & KTV Pro Alert Drive Rear.

Strip Drive Pro Alert Rear brake light

The $55 / 55€ Strip Drive Pro is the most expensive, but also most powerful of the Lezyne LED rear lights to get the new Alert brake light tech inside. With a peak output of 360 lumens, this is a seriously bright tail light.

In reality of offers 8hr runtime in steady 35 lumen night blast mode, more than 6hr in 300 lumen daytime flash mode, as well as 9 other customizable modes – all with 270° visibility and a weight of just 66g.

Strip Alert Drive Rear brake light

Much like the pro version, the $45 / 40€ Strip Drive offers the same tall profile with 270° visibility & 66g weight, just with lower output of the 5 LEDs. With a peak brightness of 175 lumen, it’s still amply bright, but scales daytime flash back to 150 lumen for 5.5hr, or the 35 lumen night steady blast mode for only 4hr.

You still get the same 11 total light mode options, and a max runtime of 27hr on the economy 3 lumen flash mode.

Zecto Alert Drive Rear brake light

The $40 / 40€ Zecto Drive is the most compact of the Alert-equipped brake lights, with probably the highest ratio of size:output. It also has the ability to clip it onto clothing or a pack strap, or to use a regular strap mount around your seatpost.

The Zecto Alert Drive actually has a max output of 80 lumens in daytime flash mode (6.5hr runtime), although the steady-on Alert brake light output seems to peak at 35 lumens. Five total light modes are available with up to 15.5hr operation from the 53g rear light.

KTV Pro Alert Drive Rear brake light

The $35 / 30€ KTV Pro is the most affordable way to get the Lezyne Alert brake light function, using the same easy to USB recharge casing as we saw in last year’s debut of the Smart Connect programmable lighting from Lezyne.

The 56g KTV Pro Alert Drive also gets 270° visibility and a peak output of 75 lumens for the brake light. That’s the same max output as the 7.5hr daytime flash mode, with four more light modes to choose from and max burn times of up to 14hr.
